Hello! My name is Alice! On the interwebs, people often also call me Cynical, or just Cyn for short. I’m fine with any, call me what you will! I’m a new recruit to Ebenguard.
I’m… sort of I guess as close to a professional larper as one gets? Which is to say that I make no money doing it, but I spend nearly all my time preparing to travel or actually travelling around the US (and the world when there isn’t a pandemic and I have the funds to do so) playing make believe, dressing up, and telling collaborative improvisational stories in far off worlds with friends and strangers alike. If I’m not participating as a part of someone else’s story, I’m writing my own, or I’m doing research, or building costuming or… well, you get the idea. I specialize in a style of larp known as freeform, to those that know it.
So, uh, my journey here is a bit of a story. I think about… 4-ish years ago? I stumbled upon some super interesting and weird posts on some random corner of the internet, got curious, and followed them to their source. Turned out it was something to do with this whole Ackerly Green, ‘Briarverse’, book… arg… thing. I was very interested at the time, especially given what I do and my personal interests, but I had a lot on my plate, and was overwhelmed by the idea of needing to catch up to all of that lore, so I filed it away under ‘cool reative things someone is doing’, and moved on.
But then I kept stumbling into it. Either through random mentions in the most innocuous of places, or through advertisements, or whatever. Of course, there was always even more lore than last time, and more reasons to be very overwhelmed, so I continued to pass it by. Regardless of my intentions, I just kept stumbling into stuff relating to this weird magical world whenever I least expected it. Long story short, I eventually just lost that war of attrition I didn’t even fully realize I was a part of, and, well, now I’m here. And of course, after all that time there’s mountains more of lore to catch up on… and I proooobably should have just started way back when.
