Brandon Lachmann: The Fourth Fragment: General

Does anyone here have knowledge of runes or runic languages? I keep trying to translate something but I feel like I’m getting nonsense. On the following file, there is something written in whatever runic language.

For a close up, if you are lazy, like me:

The best I got is “mask uf uiurat”, which sounds like mostly nonsense, so yeah. I wrote the base paragraph of the story, but I got no clue what this “mask” is all about, there was never anything about it in my original text. Honestly, I don’t even think it really has to do with the story on it, since it talks about an “idol” and not a “mask”. Its possible this isn’t even important, at all, but I don’t know why it would be there otherwise.

Hmm…Well, from what I researched, it looks like there can be variants to the runes. At least, according to this website, assuming we’re dealing with younger futhark runes (which seems to be the case?). So, for example, can be used for o, u, v, y, œ, or q, can be used for t, d, or nd, can be used for e, i, j, y, œ, or æ, and can be used for a, e, æ, or q.

I think your translation of mask is correct, seeing as the drawing is of a mask. I’m guessing it’s mask of [something], but I need a hot second to parse out all this rune stuff.

Now it is late here so maybe my eyes are seeing something that isn’t actually there, but based on what you are saying and what @TheBellsAreRinging are saying and my own brief research into runic languages, the runes can translate to “Mask of Ojorad”.

I don’t think this can be a coincedence after the poem from the Third Fragment.

EDIT: Which could then lend credence to the theory that Brandon could be the “Last of the Travelers”/“Last Traveler”

Hi, @Endri! Yes, I am around – I was actually just getting caught up on progress when I saw this message! I wonder what’s in store on the 29th!

I also slightly remember someone else posting on the forums and saying they were in NY; I’ll do a forum search and see if I can find that post!

EDIT: Found it! @H3RM3S, are you around in the coming weeks?

@Dustin, that’s fantastic news. And we may need someone in the city in the next couple of weeks. We just don’t know when yet. The Devoted have hinted that there are things hidden in the city that will help us get to the end of all this. We’ll tag you and @H3RM3S in any post that’s pertinent to needing “ground forces.”

I don’t want to bother him anymore, he’s been through enough.

Agreed. If we have members who can be there, then rather not bug him more than we already have. Still, never hurts to know your options.

For those of you who haven’t checked the “Tiles” Sub-Topic, @TheBellsAreRinging got the correct combination for the tiles, and the second beacon has been lit. 3 more “Encounter” sheets have been posted with todays date amongst the others. And they seem to have our next puzzle within. (Sorry if I stole your thunder Bells, I am just too excited)

Haha no problem @Brendon, you gave me credit

Also, @Crytter found the actual location of the second beacon, which is The Beresford. (Bere=Barley and Ford=Wade.)

sorry I had to go quiet for midterms but I’m back.

@TheBellsAreRinging your runic language might not be actual Norse. I can double check the translation. When I get home but it looks suspiciously like dwarven from a dungeon masters guide which was based on Norse.

Also if it is Norse then runes are more like Japanese kanji than anything else containing several possible meanings in each character.

Possibly unrelated Fun fact: the word closest to rune in definition is arcanum or mystery.

I think it has been confirmed by @Endri here SOLVED: Lachmann: The Fourth Fragment: Third Beacon - #3 by Endri White that the translation in indeed ‘Mask of Ojorad’.
BTW, I emailed The Devoted asking about the Mask and its relation to the poem and the beacons.
Edit: credit goes to @Revenir, @Brendon and @TheBellsAreRinging IMO. Nice team solve everybody!

Alright, great job all you… peeps! Mountaineers! Dudes! Whatever!
We successfully figured out the Polaroid puzzle (as far as we know).

However as @YankeeWhite found, there is also this sculpture that could be the “six legged king” (which is a lot more likely than what I suggested)
@Tom also found The Ramble, which could also be “the roundabout”, since rambling means basically talking in circles.

All in all though, @Tom also figured that the Wyvern that @Leigha found on the Belvedere Castle, is the third beacon, and has already emailed the devoted, whose response we await!
Go team! We made it before 3:33!

To be honest with you all, its such a relief we figured it out in time, and with time to spare. I can finally relax and focus on other stuff. Solving magic puzzle sure does take a lot of blood, sweat, and tears! More so tears and sweat, not blood haha. But what I’m concerned with now, is the 4th beacon, and what’s gonna happen after we solve it (hopefully in time). For now though, things are okay. We all did a really great job! Treat yourself to a nice cheesy taco, or, if you are lactose intolerant, some candies!

So @Tom what did they say?

Okay just got the email:

The third beacon has been activated.
One beacon remains.
Cover your eyes to see its light.
More help has been provided.
You are now on the timeline.
The clock will reset.
