Your Favorite Subscription Boxes

I’m super obsessed with houseplants right now, so I was really glad to find that one. :herb:

I’ve gotten LootCrate a few times when its theme was something I liked, but I’ve always been a bit underwhelmed by it.
I routinely get my father BeanBox coffee boxes for his birthday. He really likes the coffee and chocolate boxes, where each chocolate is matched to the coffee so you can have a nice little snack. You can adjust the coffee types depending on the flavours you like as well. I definitely recommend them if you like brewing coffee in a French Press or pour over, and like trying different brews.
I’ve been looking for a box for my mom, but no luck so far. I was really hoping to find a Spanish or Mexican themed box, but they all seem food related, which isn’t quite what I’m going for.
Lunarly seems so cool! I’ve seen photos of what everyone has been getting and it just seems right up my alley.

I didn’t know plant subscriptions were a thing! I want that now!

The only one I’ve ever tried was Munchpak. It’s a monthly box of snacks from random countries, and it actually has its own app that lets you scan the barcodes of snacks and tells you what country they’re from. There’s no monthly theme, just a random assortment. It also lets you tailor the box for additional cost by selecting types of foods/countries to preference in or out. It was pretty cool for a while but some things do start to repeat after a few months. I believe I got the $10 option with a smaller and larger available, and $10 gives a pretty good amount of snacks as long as you enjoy everything in it.

Not long received the first experimental loot crate from a friendly blacksmith.
As ideas go, loot creates are pretty epic.

I had subscribed to Lunarly for 3 months and loved it! I unfortunately had to drop it and missed the black moon box . But maybe in the next few months I will be able to resub because the candles smelled great and the plants are the best part for me. Also love getting the crystals, I keep them in my purse often.

I use Book of the Month, and I’m always super pleased. I used to subscribe to Ipsy, but I was deluding myself that I would actually wear makeup and gave most of it away (but kept the bags).

I’ve used Sprezza box, they send you masculine accessories: ties, socks, cuff links etc. It’s great if you’re just starting out at a job or something where you need that kind of thing. It’s 40$, but the value is obviously more than that. I got that for about a year and was decentlybset up.

We’ve since switched to Barkbox, which includes two dog toys and two treats. The toys are excellent and totally worthwhile. Our puppy trainer said we needed at least 30 toys to rotate and I thought that was a lot, but I kind of get it now. The treats are what I’d call “sugary” though I mean that in dog terms. They’re not his training treats. They’re his ice cream ; j (they are flavours you could be tempted to eat tho!)

If I had more money I’d get a subscription to MeUndies. They’re the best undies!!!

My friendly blacksmith is running another loot crate.
No obligation to sign up, given the current circumstances and since hes doing them adhoc rather than monthly, I thought I’d share the link to try and support him.

Hello friends

Reviving this thread because we’ve been talking about getting one of my family members like a murder mystery subscription box thing for Christmas and I wanna know if any Mounties out there have tried any and recommend them? Or at least know which ones to stay away from.

I know Ash talked about a couple before, but I thought I’d post again with the influx of all the newer Mounties since way back then.

I don’t have much faith in generalized subscription boxes. I did Loot Crate for a year and was generally more disappointed than excited. Got a few cool things but the variety meant I got a bunch of boxes that didn’t fit my interests.

That being said, I feel much better about very specific topic boxes. My favorite (and admittedly only) box is RPG Crate. Each month brings a themed adventure module that follows an annual campaign, a mini (more often stuff like Bones but they used to almost always be nice metal boys), a book (usually a module but sometimes other neat source materials), really good shirts that I personally wear to the exclusion of pretty much all other shirts, and sometimes other neat gubbins (dice, coins, mysterious artifacts) Aside from all that, the owner is a super nice guy who is super quick to fix any problems you have.

Honorable mention goes to Humble Choice which is a video game “sub box” where you get something like six choices of a dozen games a month (I don’t actually know how many choices it is because I have the classic version where I get basically all of them :3) They definitely aren’t all winners but there have been some real gems and there’s a pretty impressive variety of genres

OOO, thanks for reviving this @DjangoSolare.

I don’t like “stuff” and I’m a cheapskate so even though I often get the “OH! SHINIES!” when I see advertisements or friends post about their boxes, I just can’t be bothered. I do highly recommend KiwiCo. My mother-in-law got one for each of the little kids in the family and my 4-year old thinks it is the most amazing thing ever. Heck, I think it’s the most amazing thing ever. Sure, we get “stuff” but it’s art projects that we can display, or games, or even costumes and toys that he’ll play with for a while longer.

(And pssst, they offer grown-up crates too)

I’ve been seeing KiwiCo every once in a while and I really need to get some for… research purposes. Need to find out if it’s something my future kids will enjoy. By… enjoying it. Myself. I’m sure I can get my wife to go for it at least a couple of times

We get the 2-4yo box and it’s super fun; I think the 14+ boxes could be a really fun date night.

I was subscribed to Empty Faces for a while - a story-driven puzzle box delivered each month. The story of Empty Faces focuses on the occult, magic, and horror. It was really good, and I enjoyed it a lot, but the issue I had was that sometimes puzzles from previous boxes would become relevant again in future puzzles, so I had a habit of keeping all the previous boxes, and, well,… that eventually takes up a lot of space.

And while not a subscription box, in that it’s a one-time purchase, but works similar to the above service, The Mysterious Package Company gets all of my praise. It’s basically like getting a story driven subscription puzzle box, but instead of getting bits and pieces of the story each month through a subscription, you pay once and get the entire story. It’s more pricey because of it, but the props are ridiculously high quality, and very much reusable for other things, or just for display! I’ve gotten several of their packages now, and plan on getting more. Even just as simple packages and boxes, I have found myself incredibly immersed!

Oh, I really love clothes. I have a lot of them. Naturally, I have a clothing subscription. I am subscribed to Stitch Fix. I like their boxes of clothes the most. They cooperate with a large number of brands that I really like. In addition, I like this subscription because I do not need to worry and try to pick up things so that they are combined and look beautiful on me. Professionals do it for me. Of course, if I don’t like something, it will simply be replaced for me. I also have a subscription for shoes. It’s from the same category. It’s super convenient.
I liked the message about the puzzle box. I will need to subscribe.

We’ve been very pleased with Sakuraco. It’s a box of seasonal treats from different parts of Japan, focusing on regional specialties. There are others by the same folks that focus more on popular snacks and manga/imagery; this one is a bit more focused on traditional culture. It nets out to about $30 per box, but we’ve found it to be worth it, even when some of the treats are not really our favorites.
