You always need a bit of despair, that’s what makes you grow, not hope! Hope is something fickle and easily broken, despair helps you discover yourself. Because it is in despair you find strength living within you that you never dreamt could ever even exist

Hope and despair each requires the other to be relevant or meaningful. Living in a state of despair without hope does nothing for your character. Blindly following hope without tasting despair is naive, at best - dangerous, at worst.
