Back to the Future Part Two: The Sound of the Storm

Once again, Robert said it better than I ever could, this topic is to discuss figuring out and setting up using The Latern of Low Hollow.

The Lantern of Low Hollow - This is the spell we have found half of, and we need to get the other half from Ascender. With Ascender’s half, we can hear the storm. With our half, we can control it. Other than the words we don’t know a lot about the mechanics of this spell.

This team should brainstorm ideas to ‘Mountaineerize’ the spell. How can we supercharge it to face something bigger, and badder than it was probably ever designed to control? Add objects? Add stories? Add funny hats?

I volunteer the Operation Gladitor energies for this if they don’t already get used. It’s nearly complete; we’re only missing one component story to have a full complement for the spell. It’s a figuration allegory of us standing up to the bully of the Silver/the Storm.

Edit: Once we have the last component, it’s ready to be released by reciting a quick key phrase from each story

I think he means to use the energy built up from the Operation Gladitor work, the people who’ve been doing it need to read bits of the stories associated with that. The stories for 9/23 are a different set of stories.

Okay, I know we don’t have the full spell yet (hopefully that’ll come from Ascender today fingers crossed), but I think we need to start working out how we’re going to deal with this spell. Do we want to add physical components (items like the callign the coners spell? Everyone wear tinfoil hats?)? Do we want to write stories to keep in mind while we recite the spell?

The story of The Lantern of Low Hollow is a story about a man and his wife. Perhaps we should consider cobbling together a narrative more closely related to us, something that more of us can relate to on an emotional level so we have more to draw on in experience, memory, and feeling. Things that influence the strength of our magiq. Something that enhances the spell, without necessarily changing it, because we don’t necessarily know all of the elements of the spell that make it work precisely the way it does.

Of course, for this to be truly effective, we need Ascender’s half of the spell. But we can start brainstorming.

We have the first part!

It has worked. Evelyn is not possessed by some demon. There is a voice on the air that commands her to do these things. To howl and hurt herself and those around her. I have heard it. Just tonight. My ears prick at its whisper. My pen scratches out its thoughts. I know now that someone has taken the reins of my beloved’s mind.

There is a verse on the tip of my tongue and the edges of my fingers. A verse that might allow me to break the voice’s hold, to usurp its command. But though I have the wordly skills to bend its voice to me, I do not have the strength to break its will.

I lack both skill and sufficient power to rid my love of this curse. Some demented force beyond these walls seeks to drive my wife to madness, to drag me tooth and nail behind her, and all that I am able to do is listen as it tears her apart. What I would be, or break, to have rid of it.

[Use a lantern with new oil and an unburned wick or an unlit candle to represent your untainted intentions. Find a dark and quiet place. It’s helpful to be near the person or thing you believe is being coerced. Light a new flame and repeat the incantation. If successful you will not only hear the disembodied voice but may also be driven to speak or write the words you hear spoken.]
