I’m right there with you Unless I possibly had an unconscious goal of facing uncertainty this year, in which case I’m succeeding!
I have trouble with task initiation, so I didn’t make any 2019 resolutions. But so far, the year’s not going badly!
Welp, I can now say I’ve achieved my goal; I have passed my degree!
That’s awesome, congratulations Nim!!!
Congrats!! That’s so exciting!!
Congratulations!
Congratulations!! I hope you had a good time with it too!
The year is now half over. I didn’t bother making any goals in January because I was jobless, broke, directionless and depressed.
But now I have a job, with enough income that I can start meeting my immediate goals: pay off my credit card, save for a new (NEW new!!) car, and start an emergency fund. After I have the car, a kayak is in the goals. Somewhere in the middle of all this will come a new bookshelf and my own ridgid heddle table loom.
Congrats on the job! Glad the clouds seem to be lifting. Depression can make it hard to sort out all those other things that can make it worse, and it’s a hard cycle to live in. Also, I love kayaking! I hope you can get your own; would love to hear all about your adventures
I’ve been in a holding pattern on making plans this year because - I knew going in - there were a lot of things I couldn’t exactly control, so I’ll recount some of what I’ve done this year, some things I’m working on right now, and what I hope to do before the year is out!
Accomplishments:
I graduated with my MFA in Theatre Performance and Pedagogy
I took an original, non-traditional, immersive show to the Prague Quadrennial
I moved out of my hometown and my home state
I started a garden
Active Tasks:
Back in my hometown to help take care of my grandma post-op
Continuing to garden and learn more about agriculture and animism
Getting ready to travel for an encore performance of the show I took to Prague
Goals:
Stop apologizing when I don’t know something
Assert my professional status when people talk down to me
Create a business website
Create in general - being in school stripped me of a lot of my opportunities to flex my creativity, and I’m tired of feeling like a robot
Make friends in my new home town
Keep working my way through the AGP books (almost done with Cosmos & Time!)
A lot of these are vague and difficult to track success with, but they have a lot to do with how I choose to view and interact with the world around me, and I want to get back to trusting my instincts and shed the self-doubt and imposter syndrome that came with an advanced degree (for me - I hope not everyone has that experience with education!)
What a cool way to track our hopes and encourage each other’s progress! Props all around for everyone who has accomplished their goals and those who are still working toward them!
Awesome! Congratulations on the MFA and the show!
I feel this so much. I had the same experience in college. All my energy went to school papers or scripts and I lost a lot of my drive.
Does anyone else use planners or bullet journals to help with tracking and accomplishing goals? I would think there’d be a fair few around here, given the love of stationary.
We use the BestSelf Co Self journals for our goals in the office and they’re really nice!! It’s basically a journal per quarter and has space for you to set three goals for yourself and break down how you’re going to work on them daily, weekly, and monthly! We’ve found them to be really helpful in holding ourselves accountable and making the most of all the hours in the day, and they also have cute affirmations and spaces to write down things that you’re grateful for every day which is just nice to do
I’ll have to look those up! I’ve been using the Passion Planner for the last couple of years. It has a lot of features I really enjoy, but breaking my days down hour by hour just isn’t the most useful for me, since my main goal is to finish a first draft of this novel that keeps expanding itself when I’m not looking.
I use the Happy Planner minis! I’m addicted to the disc-bound system now. I have two, one for social, and the other for keeping track of budgeting and travel costs for work. The social planner holds my general goals lists, and the budget planner has my goals related to/dependant on finance
So I know I am a bit late to the game, but I just arrived here on the forums! So with little over four months left, I have a few goals I am working towards.
-
First I plan to visit my brother who has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Even then his joy and love is something I hope to capture in the form of a character in my trilogy.
-
That brings me to point 2, finish mlthe second novel in my trilogy.
-
Find a literary agent to help publish book 1.
-
Last but not least, spend more time doing active things (hiking, biking, etc.) rather than just my typical stationary hobbies (dnd, video games, writing, reading)
Four months…let’s see what happens!
So…I finally did the math to update my Run The Year tracker (online, still need to color in the map) with what I’ve done since the beginning of May.
This one was a spectacular failure.
I would have to manage nearly 21 miles per day for the rest of the year to actually hit 2019 on New Year’s.
And that’s not happening.
So the next time I try to log this sort of miles all on foot, please remind me that I need at least one buddy for that sort of thing.
I updated my tracker for this through the end of the year, and came up about 1500 miles short.
So yeah, succeeded on the races back in February, worked on several crafty things, and bombed on the rest of my 2019 list.
Don’t be so hard on yourself you’ve done an amazing amount of work this year and now you can used it as a stepping stone for next year! In the end what matters is that you tried
I’m doing Run The Year again this year if you want a buddy!
