I wouldn’t be surprised. But I would also think they would fund people to make him look like a hoax so that people wouldn’t believe him. The Silver are to greedy to allow everyone to have maqic
That’s a great point @Robert. I just pulled up my notes about The Cagliostro because I remember him mentioning the (disgusting and terrifying) ritual and “device” that passed on whatever was in him, as if it were a specific power or entity.
Could they have had some plan for him that was more public or front-facing? Or perhaps could only partially contain/control what was in him? Or, and this seems out of the ordinary for The Silver, but Cags was a cash cow, could his performances have been funding something? Them? Martin mentioned him pulling in millions of dollars in a night’s performance.
Sorry, this is what happens when I go into research-mode. Wild speculation and endless arbitrary facts make Endri a happy Captain.
Maybe he was simply too powerful for the Silver, and they never were willing to lose what they had hoarded by testing themselves against him/it.
A complex, uneasy alliance, because when pushed, look what happened?
He even had dinner with a group of “them” at one point, I believe they were celebrating the choosing of his replacement. Lauren saw it using telemancy.
Actually now that I think about it… Cags’s server was hosted by Kemetic Solutions, so we know there’s that connection. And we know that the Silver were using KS to learn how to close doors. If I recall correctly, Teddy even called KS’s building the palace made of doors in the last livestream. But that begs the question…how’d KS get the cash to run that huge research facility, pay (maybe?) its employees, and fund all the tests and such. That’s a lot of money, but it seems like they weren’t doing anything commercial, so maybe those million dollar tickets were going back into the door-closing research?
At one point Cags said, “Funny, to posses all of this power yet still be at the whim of those who posses nothing more than flakes of paper and broken toys.” KS had that magiqal journal and “broken” adepts like Watcher and Port (or they thought she was broken, at any rate). I’m also quite curious who his successor was supposed to be. I don’t think it was Teddy. Cags mentioned it was a man not magiqally inclined, but who had wealth and influence and was groomed to be his successor from childhood. With Lauren MIA, guess we’re unlikely to ever find out though.
I thought Teddy and KS were trying to reach the Palace of Doors through their adept-powered gate - that’s why the Storm wiped them out, they got too close. That was my understanding of it, anyway.
I’d gathered that KS, in league with or on the order of The Silver, were trying to “pierce the veil” into the fray, where The Council resides. The voice in The Storm told us they were figuring out how to shut doors. Sever connections?
We never found out who Teddy Fallon was communicating with through his notebook. The Silver?
This is a transcription from the livestream. It’s from a biased source (Teddy), so take it with a grain of salt (7:16):
“It does. It’s why we’ve done all of this the past few months. Threatening Aether, putting the life of a young man at risk, like Brandon like your son. It’s catnip for you. Why do you think we’ve had that girl in the chair over and over and over when I’ve had the last fragment of her mind in my head for months? To bring you here, because with you, here, we’ll be able to bring all manner of power to our side. To the palace made of doors.”
Looking back on it, it’s not clear if Teddy sees Kemetic Solutions as the palace made of doors. But at the very least, Teddy is claiming to be able to at least bring things to the palace made of doors. My understanding of his statement was that he was going to use Marty as a magiqal “magnet” of sorts to attract magiqal people/artifacts, and then store them in the palace of doors. That makes the palace seem less like a goal, and more like a place they already had access to.
My theory is that the Silver were using KS to further their goals, but destroyed them when they got inconvenient. Probably the Silver has had many pawns throughout the years and KS was just the modern one. Like Endri mentioned, we never knew who Teddy was communicating with in the notebook, but the Silver seem like a reasonable guess.
I never thought of it that way. That makes so much more sense now.
I can’t say if it’s right or not, but I do have tin foil in spades.
It does make sense, though, doesn’t it? While the Silver is very, very protective of who can access magiq, they do let some people in, when it serves their purpose. They do the same thing with The Low - it’s filtered access, so the lowest tiers know very little and have to work their way up, with those who don’t prove their worth (or who can’t be trusted) being memory wiped. But I suspect they always have a stable of magiqally knowledgeable folks to use as pawns. That’s how they’re able to track down all these small pockets of magiq so efficiently.
Now all I want to do is take the Storm down. To wrestle it to the ground and end it.
That way we can find the Silvers and end them too.
for all the mounties they took from us, and for all the adepts they used.
for the world of Neithernor, and for our world, once blessed with magiq.
I want to end them.
